VCU Stuns Kansas, Heads to Final Four

The 11th-seeded team upsets No. 1 seed Kansas 71-61

(AP) – Jamie Skeen scored 26 points and 11th-seeded Virginia Commonwealth is crashing the Final Four after the upset of the NCAA tournament, shocking No. 1 seed Kansas 71-61 today. So doubtful were the Rams of even making the tournament that they didn't watch the selection show. Two weeks later, they're Houston-bound after an incredible takedown of the last No. 1 seed.

The Rams needed five wins to go from First Four to Final Four. Along the way, they toppled teams from the Pac-10, Big East, Big 10, ACC, and now the Big 12. They'll pick on someone their own size next: Butler. Click for more on yesterday's games.

What a shocker! I love Bill Self and was pulling for Kansas because he is such a class guy, we lived in the same town Edmond, OK. for years and I met Bill a couple of times when he coached at the University of Tulsa, but hats off to VCU. I hope they win it all as an 11 seed, which I don't think has ever been done before. This could be a college version of the movie "Hoosiers,"

(NEWSER) - March Madness will be just a wee bit madder next year, expanding from 65 teams to 68, the NCAA announced today. Essentially there will be three extra early “play-in” games, ESPN explains. There had been talk of expanding the tournament to as many as 96 teams and engulfing the NIT, but the committee unanimously passed the 68-team proposal instead. More»

(AP) - It's almost heaven, West Virginia. Da'Sean Butler and the Mountaineers are off to the Final Four for the first time since 1959. Injury replacement Joe Mazzulla scored a career-high 17 points in his first start this season and No. 2 seed West Virginia handled a cold-shooting, top-seeded Kentucky team stocked with future NBA players almost from the opening tip for a 73-66 victory in the East Regional final tonight in Syracuse. Underdog Butler Gains Final Four

West Regional No. 5 seed topples K-State, will play 5 miles from campus

(AP) - Butler has earned a trip home for the Final Four. Gordon Hayward made a driving layup with under a minute to go, and the fifth-seeded Bulldogs used the same tenacious defense they exhibited all game in the closing seconds to knock off second-seeded Kansas State , 63-56, in the West Regional final today in Salt Lake City. Hayward finished with 22 points to lead Butler (32-4), which won its 24th straight and will play Michigan State or Tennessee next weekend. More»
