Second-ranked UCLA performed as expected last night, handily defeating Youngstown State 83-52, reports AP. The 2-0 Bruins enjoyed a second standout game from freshman center Kevin Love, who put up 21 points and nine rebounds. Fellow big man Lorenzo Mata-Real had 14 each of points and boards. In other college basketball action:

  • Ohio State broke out the zone defense for its 91-68 trouncing of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
  • Malik Hairston sank a career-high 29 points for Oregon in a 97-88 win over Western Michigan in the World Vision Invitational.
  • No. 11 Marquette struggled to subdue unranked Utah Valley State, 66-55.
