(Newser) – Less than a day after his wife of 39 years lost her long battle with cancer, a Michigan man died in a car crash. “I definitely think there was some divine plan that made my dad die 24 hours later," said daughter Kellie Ittner. Ittner and her two siblings had gathered to plan the funeral for their mother, Lana Tice, and were awaiting the arrival of their dad.

“When my dad was crying, to me it wasn’t so much that she was losing the battle, but that he was losing the battle with her,” Ittner told Michigan Live. “Because he was with her through everything.” Tice said she explained her dad's death to her small children thusly: “Grandma missed Papa so much that she sent down the angels to get Papa to bring him to Heaven, too.” Steven Tice will be buried holding the urn that contains his wife's ashes.

When I lost my wife after a 10 year battle with breast, and then lung cancer, I was a total basket case. I functioned entirely on adrenalin for weeks. I'm surprised now, looking back on those first couple of months, that I didn't have an accident or something. My youngest son was in an accident between the funeral and funeral reception locations when he hit a telephone pole and totaled his car, and he never saw it in his grief. So, I fully understand what actually happened here. I would suggest that if anyone reading this knows someone who is going through a similar situation, they should keep a close eye on them, and maybe drive them around for a week or two until they get a reasonable amount of control over their emotions and can pay attention. You very well could be saving their life.

“Grandma missed Papa so much that she sent down the angels to get Papa to bring him to Heaven, too.” The first time I have seen a Divine reason for a death that I approve, at least they used sky gods to soften a terrible loss to the children
