(NEWSER) - It’s Shark Week! Time offers a brief history of Discovery Channel’s popular annual event:

• An oldie but a goodie: It’s been around since 1987, just two years after the channel launched, making it cable’s longest-running event.
• Average viewers: It’s one of the most popular television events, with more than 20 million tuning in every year since 1995.

Her weirdest phobia? 'Touching newspaper.' But the other quotes are even better.

Spears dogged by rumors that she stormed out of taping

(NEWSER) - New judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato had their first X Factor taping yesterday, and of course there were rumors of bad behavior. TMZ reports that Spears stormed off the set upset after a contestant did a less-than-stellar version of her song "Hold It Against Me," forcing the next four contestants to audition in front of the remaining judges while her seat stayed empty. But Spears tweeted a denial, the New York Daily News reports: "#Britneywalksoff??? LOL was just taking a little break, people. I am having the BEST time!!!" More»

Blue and Berkley love Jackson, Theron tells Ellen DeGeneres

(NEWSER) - Charlize Theron says she’s not actually a single mom to new son Jackson—because she has help from her dogs. Yesterday on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Theron explained that her two rescue dogs immediately took to Jackson after she adopted him in March , People reports. Crazy lawsuit filed against actress

(NEWSER) - According to a new lawsuit, Sharon Stone hired a nanny … then wouldn't let her speak to Stone's children, lest they pick up her Filipino accent. This according to Erlinda T. Elemen, who worked as Stone's live-in housekeeper and nanny for five years, and who claims Stone made other racially derogatory comments around her. Elemen claims she was fired after she asked Stone to pay her overtime wages that the actress had originally withheld; Stone allegedly paid her but screamed at her and called her a thief, then fired her for taking the pay.
