Nader on 2012: Sadly, Obama’s a Shoo-In

But liberal firebrand is trying to drum up a primary challenger

(Newser) – Ralph Nader isn’t holding his breath waiting for President Obama to go down in flames Jimmy Carter-style. “The stars are aligned” for Obama’s reelection, Nader writes in a Bloomberg op-ed. Here’s why:

  • The Republican primary field is littered with hardcore ideologues. “Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump and others might as well be on the Democratic National Committee payroll,” Nader quips.

  • Democrats will use Paul Ryan’s “reverse Robin Hood plan” to stoke outrage amongst their supporters.
  • Republican attacks on unions in places like Wisconsin and Ohio aren’t going to play well with swing voters and Reagan Democrats.
  • Big corporations should be in Obama’s corner: After all, he’s bailed out the auto industry, delivered guaranteed customers to health insurers, and kept his hands off their subsidies. Jeffrey Immelt will vouch for his character.
  • No one seems willing to challenge Obama in a primary—though Nader is working on it. In an interview with Politico yesterday, Nader said that he’s trying to recruit candidates to oppose Obama, in a bid to pull him to the left. And Nader promises he won’t be one of them. “This isn’t like a third-party or independent candidacy,” he said. These candidates will “support Obama, but want him to keep his 2008 promises.”

Nader has done some good things in his life, but exercised very poor judgement in 2000 by running as an independent. Nader took just enough votes away from Al Gore to set the stage for 8 years of George "W" Bush, the man Nader described as "a Giant corporation masquerading as a human being." The middle class and poor were far worse off after Bush's "lost decade." Since Herbert Hoover in 1928, the republican party have mastered the art of baloooning the "misery index" for all but the wealthiest few. In order, here's the republican "TEAM TRICKLE DOWN's" season averages............: BATTER UP......... TEAM HERBERT HOOVER: THE GREAT DEPRESSION it took Roosevelt 8 years to clean up the mess left by Hoover 2nd worse stock market crash in History- BANK FAILURES FORECLOSURES 25 PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT The middle class and poor SUFFERED while the Rich got Welfare from the Government GAME 1- A TOTAL LOSS, A SKUNKING, the People were Run Ruled- HOOVER, You're FIRED TEAM EISENHOWER-- 2 severe recessions in 8 years, left President Kennedy a helluva mess to clean up Big Campaign promise was to end inflation. Inflation worsened under Eisenhower To his credit, he didn't give away the treasury to the rich, top tax rates were 90 percent, so the country didn't run up huge debt like we did under Reaga, Bush 1 and W Bush. ALSO, he was able to get the US out of Korea with a stalemate in a couple of years. Other accomplishments, In his "farewell speech" Eisenhower warned the country to stop the growing power of the "military-industrial complex" (big business) who financed Eisenhower's campaigns. Unfortunately the country didn't heed his warning--this group made a fortune, starting with Eisenhower, by nudging us into a 20 year involvement in Vietnam. GAME 2 RESULT FOR TEAM EISENHOWER- A LOSS, score 5 to 1. NOT AS BAD AS HOOVER. TEAM NIXON- TWO recessions in Shortened 6 year term- THE COACH QUIT when he was about to get fired. Stock market crash in '73] and '74. Hold that thought, gotta go.......... or you can take my word for it, Every republican administration has produced a recession or worse every four years, 5 stock market crashes since 1929, bank failures, foreclosures, corruption due to ties to big business paying off politicians, and since Reagan, about $15 trillion in national debt can be laid at the feet of republican "trickle down prosperity" economic policy. David Stockman, lifelong republican and Reagan's budget director said so himself in his recent essay "HOW MY GOP DESTROYED AMERICA'S ECONOMY"
