Homeless man swiftly caught by police

(Newser) – Passengers on a Tampa bus got a surprise yesterday, when a homeless man got on and started handing out wads of cash. The source of the loot? A bank the man, 27-year-old Elmer McGuirt, had robbed mere moments earlier, police tell the St. Petersburg Times. McGuirt allegedly walked into the bank and handed the teller a note indicating he had a weapon and demanding money.

Once he had the cash, he hopped on the bus and started handing it out, though he did stuff a wad of it in his pants for himself, according to police. But he didn’t get to keep it for long; the Sheriff’s Office contacted the bus driver, who pulled over, pretending he’d had a mechanical failure. Deputies arrested McGuirt and were able to recover some—but not all—of the money he'd given the other passengers. (Hat tip to Pat's Papers for the find.)

The moral of the lesson? Next time you rob a bank and begin to share the proceedings with the passengers, remember to shove a few hundred bundles with the driver too. http://scallywagandvagabond.com/2011/04/homeless-bank-robber-shares-stolen-loot-with-bus-passengers/
