Nudist Movement Seeks Next Naked Generation Groups try to lure the young as membership wanes By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff Posted May 7, 2011 4:08 PM CDT 24 comments Comments Nudist colonies are finding that the average birthday suit on display keeps getting older. (Getty Images) (Newser) – America's nudists fear their lifestyle is in danger of disappearing because of a failure to attract naked young people. Membership of the two main nudist organizations has been sliding for years and nudist resorts are finding that younger people aren't so keen on spending their vacations around naked Baby Boomers. "It's not that I have anything against old people," one 22-year-old tells the Wall Street Journal. "I just don't really want to hang out with them at the pool." "The problem is, most of these resorts aren't geared to young people," the head of the Naturist Society says. "They've become like retirement homes; they've sort of calcified." Numerous groups exclusively for young nudists have sprung up, however, and established nudist societies are going all-out to attract younger members with events like reverse strip poker night, naked volleyball tournaments, and the music festivals Nudepalooza and Nudestock.
