Jennifer Lopez Is Idol’s Best Judge Ever

Because she knows how to create a star from modest talent: Jon Caramanica

(Newser) – Simon who? Jennifer Lopez has emerged as "the most cogent, sensible, and helpful judge Idol has ever had," writes Jon Caramanica in the New York Times. It makes prefect sense: Lopez, after all, is neither a great singer nor a great actress, but she's famous for both careers, he observes. That's "because she deeply understands the extrinsic factors and strategies that go into creating a star."

She's adept at making the most of strengths and hiding weaknesses, and that translates to her judging duties. "She’s been outstanding at breaking down performances into their component parts, understanding that even if the vocals are strong, the body movement and stage presence might not be, or vice versa." Not too long ago, people were griping about not having a new Simon Cowell. Someday, they might be saying the same about Lopez, writes Caramanica.

With Simon you had someone who at least told it like it was and would say "I think you are in trouble tonight" and they usually were sent home. This season the judges like every performance so you never know he is going to go home. Stephen Tyler is the worst when it comes to judging performances and repeats the same ole line regardless of bad it was delivered.

You mean there is a T.V. Show called American Idol? ( I had to actually google it's official name) I haven't been watching trashy T.V.Shows of late. Does it pacify the masses?....well then it's working....

Loved to dislike Simon .. but LOVE TO LOVE JENNIFER FROM THE BLOCK. Of course it's hard to "critique" anyone this year 'cause they're alllll so GREAT ! But Jennifer ALWAYS find something relevant and interesting to say ! LOVE HER .. and I really hope the rumors of her moving onto a strictly Latin show are false. I'd like her to stay "right where she is" !
