(Newser) – Freshman Kevin Love followed a poor start with a strong finish, leading UCLA over a sloppy Maryland team 71-59. Love had 18 points and 16 boards; the second-ranked Bruins' difficulty early against the Terrapins defense was offset by Maryland's own woeful offense, including a blown 2-on-1 fast break. In Maui Invitational action:

  • No. 10 Marquette pulled away from Chaminade with a late 14-4 two-minute run, as Jerely McNeal scored 22 on 10-14 shooting.
  • Oklahoma State led by as many as 21, then overcame a furious LSU rally to win 83-77.
