The world has a new nation: South Sudan. Thousands of South Sudanese citizens celebrated today's milestone with a massive street party, reports AP. "This is a great day for me because it's a day that reflects the suffering that all southerners have had for almost 50 years," said a 24-year-old medical student. The new country is the result of a peace deal that ended the 1983-2005 civil war. (More Sudan stories.)
