(Newser) – It's no great shock that Derek Jeter got his 3,000th hit today, but this part of the story is a nice surprise: The fan who got the home-run ball gave it back, no questions asked. "I'm not going to be the one to take this away from (Jeter)," Christian Lopez, 23, told WFAN, as per ESPN. "I've got plenty of time to make money." He's not going away empty-handed, though: The team is giving him four season tickets through the rest of the season and playoffs, notes the Daily News. "It's amazing," said Lopez. "I just picked it up off the floor."

Christian Lopez, you are a class act.  Any employer would love to have someone like you working for them. Everyone in New York knows your character now.  The whole world knows.  What you did is worth alot more than money.  What's important is how you feel about you.  Your rewards are forthcoming.  Please get into some kind of physical weight goal...we want you to live a long and harmonious life.  I am sure that Jeter will sign anything for you...any of the team members will.  A bat, ball, glove, hat anything within the New York Yankees reach.  I am proud of you even though we won the 2001 World Series from you.  But this moment is not about us, it's about you and Derek Jeter.
