(Newser) – The Houston Rockets had a five-point lead going into the final two minutes of last night's game, but the Mavericks took advantage of fouls and missed shots to rally back, 100-94. Dirk Nowitzki, finally playing more like an MVP, led Dallas on big scoring drives to turn a 17-point third-quarter deficit into a win, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Nowitzki's 18 points and 14 rebounds were augmented by Devin Harris's 22 points and three steals, and Josh Howard's 20 points and seven rebounds. Yao Ming had a gigantic game for the Rockets, sinking 30 points and grabbing 15 boards and six steals, while Tracy McGrady cruised along with 15 points and 12 assists.
