Glenn Beck: Norway Victims Just Like Hitler Youth

Compares youth camp to notorious Nazi wing

(Newser) – Glenn Beck has prompted outrage yet again, this time for comparing teenage victims of the Norway shooting rampage to Hitler youth. The right-wing radio host said the Labor Party's camp on Utoya Island—where 68 people were shot last week—is eerily similar to the Nazis' juvenile branch, reports the Telegraph. "There was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler youth," said Beck on his radio show. "I mean, who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing."

A former press secretary to Norway's prime minister called the comment "a new low" for Beck. "Young political activists have gathered at Utoya for over 60 years to learn about and be part of democracy, the very opposite of what the Hitler youth was about," said the former secretary. "Glenn Beck's comments are ignorant, incorrect, and extremely hurtful."

As an American born, with grand parents from Norway, Iam appalled and ashamed with what Glenn Beck said my only feeling is to get even with him and boycott his sponsors and Fox Radio and Fox news. This man is not sane enough to be allowed to speak in public. Those poor families of the victims, my heart goes out to them. God bless you and boycott the sponsors and let them know how you feel.

(NEWSER) - Investigators are hunting for a possible British connection to the madman who killed at least 93 people in last week's terror attack in Norway. Before his cold-blooded assault on a youth camp, Anders Behring Breivik typed a 1,500-page "manifesto," entirely in English, describing his plans. In it, he says he was recruited to join a "martyr cell" at a London meeting in 2002, and refers to an Englishman he calls the "perfect knight" as his mentor, reports the Telegraph . (NEWSER) - Reeling Norwegians gathered today to honor the 93 lives lost in Friday's murderous rampage, with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg telling weeping mourners that even "in the middle of all this tragedy," Norway is a nation that will "stand together." "Soon we will be given the names and pictures of those who have died, and then the size and scale of this cruelty will become apparent," he said, calling the two days since the attacks, "an eternity—hours, days, and nights filled with shock and angst and crying."
