Amy Was Adopting 10-Year-Old: Tab Dannika Augustine already had mom, grandma, but was poor By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Jul 31, 2011 2:03 PM CDT 19 comments Comments British singer Amy Winehouse arrives at Westminster Magistrates Court, in west London, on March 17, 2009. (Getty Images) (Newser) – Perhaps the weirdest news to come out since Amy Winehouse's death so far: The Mirror reports that the singer was in the process of adopting a 10-year-old girl from St. Lucia when she died. Making the news even weirder? Dannika Augustine already has a mother and grandmother, but apparently Winehouse wanted to save the girl from poverty and hunger. “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter," Augustine says. "She took care of me and we had fun together. ... I was looking forward to living with her here or in London." The girl's grandmother says the singer had already hired lawyers to complete the adoption. The Mirror has pictures.
