Hey, Lefties: This Supreme Court Should Scare You

Obama too timid on federal nominees, with big issues coming

(Newser) – With big issues working their way toward the Supreme Court on such vital issues as health care reform, same-sex marriage, affirmative action, and police stops of undocumented immigrants, liberals need to be on guard, writes longtime court-watcher Emily Bazelon for the New York Times. Sure, there are solid progressives, such as Obama appointees Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. But frequent swing vote Anthony Kennedy, while he may side with liberals on occasion, has a voting record on par with Ronald Reagan.

But the biggest danger for the left is its lack of depth. For the past 30 years, most Supreme Court justices have come from the federal appeals court, and Republican presidents have done a much better job of appointing young appellate judges—since 1981, Republicans have appointed 41 judges under 45 years old, versus just 10 by Democrats. Obama hasn't appointed one. And fearful of confirmation fights, even with a Democrat-controlled Senate, Obama has left more than 80 vacancies on the federal bench—a record—for the past two years.

Democrats have done a much poorer job than Republicans at appointing young justices to the federal appeals courts.

I would say Obama was a wimp, if I believed he cared about anything he supposedly believes in.

Well, I had planned on taking some adult continuing education courses at F.U. but after landing on this site I think I can demand a tuition refund.  My goodness there's lectures on law, political science even the behavioral  sciences.  Why, it's taken me hours to go through all the posts and there are some magnificent ones.  Something concerns me and that is I haven't heard much on the real reasons why there's so much clamoring going on over the wealth and resources and the movement to get as much as one can get and the means justifies the end.  Anyone paying attention to presentations by the History Channel, Jessee Ventura's Conspiracy Theories et al.  Seems like, according to the aforementioned there's a plan to assemble a master race from all around the globe.  Several underground havens are either being refurbished or built across the country.  One large one in WV to house the government and secret ones.  Membership is costly though.  Unusual sun activity and big rocks headed our way.  Does that mean the big one is just over the horizon?  The hooves of the horsemen are being drowned out by all the talk, talk, talk and discussions like these are going to be so much hot air.  Don't know if it's all true but it sure is some food for thought.  Sure would like to have Newser do an article on it.  Everybody have a good one.
