Hey, Obama: Dems Slow Job Growth, Too

Labor agency's action against Boeing is case in point: Joe Nocera

(Newser) – President Obama has been rightly railing against Republicans for blocking job-creation measures, but they're not the only ones. Boeing is ready to start building its 787 Dreamliners partially in a new South Carolina plant, home to 5,000 nonunion workers. But the National Labor Relations Board wants to leave “those 5,000 workers twiddling their thumbs,” writes Joe Nocera of the New York Times. It has filed a complaint saying Boeing built the factory to retaliate against unionized workers.

"The NLRB’s action is exactly the kind of overreach that should embarrass Democrats who claim to care about job creation,” Nocera complains. While it’s illegal for a company to retaliate against a union, “it is a mind-boggling stretch to describe Boeing’s strategy as ‘retaliation.’” President Obama argues that the NLRB is an independent agency, outside his control. But "most of its top executives are his appointees," Nocera points out. "When he gets back from vacation, he might do well looking at his own administration, instead of simply blaming the lack of jobs on the Republicans.

Seriously, when has a government agency ever tried to dictate where a company makes its products? I can’t ever remember it happening. - Joe Nocera
