No. 1 Governor in Executions: Rick Perry

234 executions in 11 years sparks debate from death penalty opponents

(Newser) – Rick Perry holds one impressive record as Texas governor that even some of his competitors for the GOP's presidential nomination might not want—overseeing more executions than any governor in modern history, reports the Washington Post. With 234 people executed in Texas in Perry's 11 years as governor, Perry has overseen more deaths than the next two states combined (Oklahoma and Virginia) over the past 35 years. “If you don’t support the death penalty and citizens packing a pistol, don’t come to Texas,” he wrote in his book Fed Up!.

Some legal analysts say Perry is not responsible for that huge number of executions, as decisions to seek the death penalty are controlled by local prosecutors and the Texas governor has little room to interfere in the process. “So the short answer to why Texas has the most executions is (1) size, and (2) not being obstructed by hostile courts," said the director of a pro-death-penalty group. But because Perry even vetoed a law to ban the execution of the mentally retarded, his critics say he is unusually enthusiastic about supporting the death penalty.

Rick Perry is liberals' worst nightmare ... he does not believe in evolution, loves Jesus (and believes in the "rapture"), does not believe in "climate change," does not support Medicare or Social Security, got crappy (C+) grades at Texas A&M (what liberal would ever go there?), flew a jet as an Air Force pilot, carries a gun while jogging (even shot a coyote on a run), married his preschool sweetheart (and is still married to her after 25 yrs!), hangs and electrocutes more criminals than anyone, and is a Three-Time governor of Texas (!) who created 40% of the jobs in this country during this last Great Recession while Obama was President. Oh boy, watch out! Romney, say your Mormon prayers (it's over 4u). There has never been a CLEARER contest between the Democrats and the Republicans. Independents, get your popcorn out!

"California spends around 80-90k a year each prisoner"  ---  That is absurd as most free Americans don't live on that much.  We need a tier system. First time in prison is kinda cushy with education and job training. Second time is much less cushy with a second chance at education and training. Third time is barren, bread and water camping way out in the desert to cut down on security costs, no parole.  We need to spend our money on those that do not threaten an orderly, safe society.

he calls himself a Christian yet he administers the executions of hundreds of people. Hypocrisy. There's also the option of life in prison.
