(Newser) – The rumor mill proved true this time: Eddie Murphy will host the Oscars in February, reports the Huffington Post. One connection that likely helped, as noted by Deadline: This year's show is being produced by Brett Ratner, who directed the soon-to-open movie Tower Heist, starring Murphy and Ben Stiller. Murphy also reportedly is a huge fan of the Oscars and movies in general, and he's got plenty of experience handling a live audience from his stand-up and SNL days. Click to read one Salon blogger's take on why this is a great pick. (Last year's co-host, James Franco, didn't go over so well with critics.)

Is it Eddie Murphy circa 1984?  That was some good Eddie.  I don't much care for today's Donkey/Klumps/Daddy Day Care Eddie.

Like Whoopie says, "Above all Eddie has to keep in mind it is all about the movie stars and not about him." This will be very difficult for a famous American to do since ALL famous Americans think its all Me, Myself & I However if he can divest himself from saying "F*** this" and "F*** that" with every ever sentence, then he has a chance to redeem himself, hey maybe even reinvent his career since he certainly has the talent to do so- He could step up to Bill Cosby's standards and present a class act we can ALL appreciate
