Mexican Drug Lord's Twins Born in LA County Hospital

Joaquin Guzman's wife, daughters hold US citizenship

(Newser) – Mexico's most wanted drug lord is the proud father of two of America's newest citizens. Emma Coronel, the wife of Sinalao cartel kingpin Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, gave birth to twin girls in an LA County hospital last month, the Los Angeles Times reports. The 22-year-old former beauty queen holds US citizenship, as do her two little California-born girls.

American federal agents kept tabs on Coronel while she was in the US, but there are no outstanding charges against her. Even if she had informed investigators of her husband's whereabouts, Mexican authorities would have had a hard time getting past his huge personal security detail, agents say. Guzman, who escaped from prison in a laundry basket in 2001, has a $5 million bounty on his head, courtesy of US authorities.

Emma Coronel is quite beautiful and I seriously doubt she will be seeking govt. assistance any time soon.  If Mary Louise Parker can do it on WEEDS, what is the big deal?   Just another excuse to hate on immigrants, as if we aren't all from somewhere else, ancestrally. Actually, the Mexicans, with their Native blood, have more rights to this Continent than the rest of us.  Perhaps that is why we are so defensive.

That's just great!! They'll for sure get all the perks of being an American citizen, AND all the perks that come from that BLOOD MONEY. And yes, I'm sure they are all three being taken care of by the taxpayers, Medicaid no doubt.

If she's an American citizen, she has rights. And giving birth to her twins in the USA is one of them, whether we like her being here or not. Last time I checked, it's legal to give birth to your children in the country in which your parent is a citizen, even if one of the parents is a wanted criminal. So, I don't quite understand why this story is somehow shocking. Now, if the hospital had booted her out and expelled her [an American] across the border while in labor, that would be a story.
