(Newser) – French first lady Carla Bruni headed home today with the littlest Sarkozy in hand, leaving the Paris clinic where she gave birth to daughter Giulia on Wednesday. The baby is the first born to a sitting French president, notes the AP, a fact that was evident by Nicolas Sarkozy's absence: The proud papa, who says he felt a "very profound happiness" at the birth of his first daughter, is in Brussels all day dealing with the European economic crisis.

(NEWSER) - There's one more tongue wagging about whether Carla Bruni is pregnant : father-in-law Pal Sarkozy. The octogenarian papa of French president Nicolas Sarkozy says that the pair are definitely expecting, reports the AP. "Neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I'm certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla," he's quoted as telling Germany's Bild newspaper.
