(Newser) – They may be in their 60s now, but Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne are together again and working on a new album and tour for 2012, reports E! Online. Band members made their big announcement at Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood, saying they were going to record their first album together since 1978, with famed producer Rick Rubin.

Starting at England's Download Festival in June, Black Sabbath will go on a world tour with its original lineup. The band has made several abortive attempts to get back together over the years, but insist that this time, the comeback is for real. "They are the Beatles of heavy metal," the editor of Kerrang! magazine tells the Guardian. "It all starts with Black Sabbath."

Yeah, they're pretty old now. But I'd rather listen to THEIR new stuff than most of the crap that comes out these days.

I saw them in '78 at Madison Square Garden with VanHalen opening. After a dour moody musical intro, Ozzy walked out & could not utter the opening sentence of Black Sabbath (what is this that stands before me). He mumbled and staggered about for a moment & walked off. The band tried their best to play a bit longer, but it was over. The fans went completely bat shit & pitched their chairs in front of the stage in a pile that blocked the view of the stage. 33 years later & they don't look (or act) much different. The show will be exactly as they were back then. Some nights will be great  & once in a while Ozzy will walk out, forget where he is & what he's supposed to do & stumble off.

How timely. Now, we can hear the eerie churning of the Sabbath metal machine while watching the real apocalypse unfold.
