Ex-Porn Star Causes Ruckus Reading to Kids

Sasha Grey defends move after parents complain

(Newser) – One-time porn star Sasha Grey is defending her participation in a Read Across America program at a Los Angeles elementary school, reports the Hollywood Reporter. When parents found out that the (recently retired) adult-film actress had promoted reading to kids at the school, many complained, notes TMZ. (It has photos of Grey reading in the classroom.)

But Grey said she had a great time reading Dav Pilkey's Dog Breath, and that her past should have no bearing on her visit to the 1st- and 3rd-graders. "Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart," said Grey, who has crossed over to mainstream roles, including a stint on Entourage. "I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am."

Reminds me of when people pitched a fit about  Dr. Ruth on Between the Lions.   They were up in arms about the "sexualization of young children"...she was just being an adorable old woman ("Dr. Ruth Wordheimer" on the show) who helped characters sound out long words. Geesh.

The parents they interviewed on my local news didn't actually seem to care. They were like "we all make mistakes, as long as she's acting appropriately it's fine." That's said, is Sasha Grey really a "one-time porn star?"

This woman is basically the female equivalent of Ron Jeremy. Of course some parents are going to recognize her or at least her name, which I imagine would make a somewhat awkward reading experience for some of the men in the room. You notice how it says 'when parents found out'; yeah, I'm sure that took some really intensive research.  We live in such a screwed up society. The only positive thing in this article is the 'encouraging children to read' thing, which was Grey's prerogative and intention in the first place.
