(Newser) – A dancer for the American Ballet Theater is dead and her dancer husband seriously injured after a fender-bender on an icy New Jersey highway turned fatal. Jennifer Alexander and her husband were returning from a Pennsylvania performance of The Nutcracker when they exited their vehicle after a nine-car pileup, and both were struck by oncoming cars, reports the Newark Star-Ledger.

A man was also killed in the crash. Alexander was a popular dancer and mentor at the ABT for 13 years. "She moved with such grace from one role to the next, and with such grace through life," said an ABT official. Alexander married husband Julio Bragado-Young, also an ABT corps member, in July.
