(Newser) – As a man who knows the value of a day, 24 star Kiefer Sutherland didn't wait until the March 30 deadline to start his jail term: he was ready to go as soon as his 48-day sentence was handed down yesterday. The actor was sentenced for driving drunk for the second time in three years, AP reports.

Sutherland pleaded no contest to the charges, and was granted his request to make the Glendale city jail his new temporary home. He won't have a roommate, but will get to learn the ropes of laundry work and KP duty. "I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently," said the Emmy-winner.
