Concerned about getting this right? Hire a proposal planner.   (Shutterstock)

(Newser) – In a day and age when proposals are expected to be cinematic masterpieces or something similarly unique, what’s a guy to do? The New York Times has the answer in its report on a growing niche in the wedding industry: proposal planners. Men, and sometimes women, hire these people for anything from just the idea to the actual execution of the perfect “Will you marry me?” moment. Now, get ready to choke on your soda: The cost can be anywhere from $100 per hour to $12,000 for the whole shebang.

One proposal planner, who charges $500 just for coming up with a plan, got into the biz after being disgusted when a friend found her engagement ring at the bottom of a bucket of KFC fried chicken. Another was inspired by her own mediocre proposal, which took place on … a sunset cruise. What will you get for your money? One guy shelled out $2,000 to his proposal planner and $5,000 to various vendors so that he could propose to his girlfriend in a New York City bistro, complete with a rented 1932 Hupmobile and a quartet singing Train’s “Marry Me.”
