Flier Tasered at Calif. Airport

Edwin Barton loses it after having to go through screening twice

(Newser) – Here's a new one in the ongoing battles between airline passengers and security. Now a flier has been been zapped with a Taser—three times—for becoming "unruly" during a security screening in California. New Hampshire flier Edwin Barton, 26, walked into the Sacramento Airport off his Southwest plane when he suddenly remembered he had left something behind. Not so fast, he was told. He had to go through security screening again before he could retrieve his belongings—and he lost it, say cops. He became argumentative with TSA agents, grabbed his carry-on off the conveyor belt and struggled with deputies, who went electric on him, reports the Sacramento Bee.

Barton was taken to a local hospital and is now in jail and facing two misdemeanors. Cops are stumped about his behavior because he wasn't doing anything wrong until he got angry. "Nothing would have compromised the security of the airport," said a police spokesman. "There was no contraband, nothing illegal on his person or in his bag. It's a big question mark as to why he took the actions he did."

I am Edwin Barton's sister and would like for something to be written about the fact that not only did they leave his belongings (ID, wallet, SHOES) at the airport, he was released this morning with bare feet and no idea where he was in Sacramento.  He was never supposed to even step foot in the city, besides getting on a bus to a town two hours away.  Nobody has heard anything or seen him since he was released from the jail.  An officer filed a missing persons report for Ed.  The jail/sheriff's department refuses to release any information to our family about what is going on and due to the fucking stupidity of the TSA, my brother is MISSING.  How's that for news? Released a guy with epilepsy, who was tased three times the day before, with nothing, including any information on how to get his things back and now that guy has gone missing. Looks really good for the police department, right? Is this common in California?   I just want to find my brother and we are absolutely terrified for him.  Thanks.

The motto of New Hampshire is "Live Free or Die!" Well, he was just trying to achieve the second part of that motto.
