Couch Potato? Burger King Will Deliver

Service is being tested in the Washington, DC, area

(Newser) – So you really want a Whopper, but the idea of getting off the couch and actually driving to Burger King is just too ambitious for you? Then good news: Soon, you may be able to order home delivery from the fast food restaurant. Burger King has been testing the new service at four DC-area restaurants, and has expansion in mind, USA Today reports. Among the first challenges: Overcoming fast food consumers' concerns that burgers and fries don't travel well and definitely don't reheat well.

Burger King's solution is its "proprietary thermal packaging technology," which eliminates that problem, according to an exec, ensuring "the Whopper is delivered hot and fresh, and the French fries are delivered hot and crispy." The fine print: You'll have to pay a $2 delivery fee, and the minimum order requirement currently runs from $8 to $10, depending on the store. And you can't 100% have it your way—sodas come in bottles, not cups; breakfast items aren't available; and delivery only runs from 11am to 10pm. (In another new development, Burger King recently fattened up its fries.)

Fast food restaurants have been delivering food in China and other Asian countries for a while now.Which is one of the reasons it has made the fast food industry a success in Asia.I can see it working in America in cities with dense populations but out in the burb's its going to cost to much money and time due to the long distances.Unless you go to motor scooters or bicycles (which wouldn't be practical) to cut costs. So in the cities I can see it working and as a natural evolution to the business.

Great idea!  too bad like Webvan it will probably be secretly crushed by big oil-  but only after a good pump-n-dumpin from Goldman Sachs. Oh well, at least it will cut down on the calories I waste walking to and from my car! Now I just hope I don't confuse my deliveries and order a OG Whopper with Cheese Haze.
