Major Obama Donor Accused of Fraud

Abake Assongba has a troubled past, 'Washington Post' discovers

(Newser) – Another donor-related headache for President Obama: Abake Assongba, a "bundler" who has contributed more than $50,000 to his re-election campaign, has troubles in her past including accusations of fraud to the tune of $657,000. The Obama campaign says it is reviewing the accusations against Assongba, which she disputes, but the Washington Post notes that the situation underscores the difficulty of recruiting and vetting volunteer fundraisers.

Assongba, who also gave generously to Democratic House and Senate campaign committees, has a collection agency after her for more than $10,000 in unpaid rent, and the AP notes that she was also evicted in 2004 due to unpaid rent. A Swiss businessman accuses her of scamming him via email, and even impersonating a bank official, in order to take his money; that case is still ongoing. With her husband, Assongba runs a charity that carries out humanitarian campaigns in Africa, although the Post's investigation raises quite a few questions as to whether the charity actually exists. An Obama spokesman notes that the campaign responds quickly to such allegations, but that 1.3 million people have given so far to the campaign.

Why do you think Romney isn't releasing the names of his contributors? At least Obama releases the names of his. So why aren't all of you who are throwing such nasty accusations at the Obama camp demanding that Romney open the books so his contributors can be checked out? What is the Romney camp afraid of? Are they afraid that some of thier contributors will have 'dirty laundry' in their closets too? From checking out people who run major corporations in this country before I buy stocks, you betcha. Example: The bio for the CEO stock that trades as TECO states that he sold his investment firm that specialized in energy in 2004 so he could spend more time with his family. When you do just the simplest of checking you find that in September of 2004 he was sanctioned by NASD and his rights to trade with NASDAQ were suspended. Doesn't sound as wholesome does it as he sold his company to spend more time with his family. What should raise eyebrows about this statement is he took the job at the company in 2005. Guess he got tired of spending time with the family really fast. Just one minor issue with a CEO running a major company in this country. Then consider how vicious a number of you are about these stories about when one of over a million of Obama's contributor's/bundlers has a questionable history comes out. Now do you know why Mitt doesn't want to give out who his bundlers and contributors are? But seriously Mitt, you need to for that evil word you disdain so much - TRANSPARENCY.

Is anyone really shocked! I do not think so... I got a feeling they will be uncovering a lot more, a lot more! We do have some people over this country that are doing their job right.Thank God!

I want to know how many of these bundlers got really plum diplomatic assignments or government contracts after the last election.
