Something Can Silence Vitale

Posted Dec 18, 07 10:49 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – ESPN's beloved college basketball analyst (or loathed—opinions vary), Dick Vitale, will take the sidelines until February; doctors have located lesions on his left vocal cord which required surgery today. The former Pistons and University of Detroit coach won't be able to comment using his voice until then on what he calls "already a dynamite hoops season."

In a letter to his fans on the ESPN website, Vitale was his standard ebullient self, giving thanks to "all of the beautiful people at ESPN ... who have been so kind and fair to me and my family," as well as his "outstanding ear, nose and throat specialist."
