Secret Service Still Guarding Gingrich

Which costs taxpayers somewhere around $44K per day

(Newser) – For some reason, Newt Gingrich is still technically running for president, and for an equally mystifying reason, he hasn't dismissed the protective Secret Service detail he requested back in February, the Daily Caller reports. A source close to Gingrich's campaign says he has at least three guards watching him, and sometimes "many more. Some of the Secret Service members were even saying it was a waste of time," the source said.

That protection doesn't come cheap; while the Secret Service won't say how much Newt's protection costs, in 2008 its director told Congress that it cost $38,000 a day to guard each candidate, and that he expected it to rise to about $44,000 a day. The Secret Service says it doesn't get to pick whom it guards, but that Gingrich "meets the criteria for protection." A Gingrich spokesman insisted it was "not a waste of money," even though Romney is the presumptive nominee. "When the word 'presumptive' is removed from that sentence, we'll deal with the issue," he said.

You can bet your ass that whoever created the regulation, dictum, directive, law, whatever you want to label it, the driving force that requires the United States Secret Service to guard Presidential Candidates while they toot around all over spewing their bullshit to get elected was not someone trying to survive off of Social Security or Welfare.  It was someone up there in the 1% Club making millions or even billions that drummed this one up.  Why should we as taxpayers pay for these bastards' protection when they can afford to hire the most sophisticated security apparatus in existence.  This is just another insane waste of resources by the wealthy and powerful element and it needs to stop like last week.  Every time someone needs something to pay for their agenda what do they do?  They attack entitlement programs to foot the tab. Probably one of these politicians got a death threat.  So what, if we get one do they immediately send over a convoy of those black station wagons filled with Secret Service agents to watch over us?  This place is nuts. Fuck em' all.
