Democrats hoped to teach conservatives a lesson about messing with Big Labor by recalling Scott Walker in Wisconsin. Except Walker is now leading in the latest polls, notes CNN, and he stands a good chance of winning on June 5. In fact, the attacks against Walker have all but turned him into a "conservative cult-hero," writes Robin Bravender in Politico, who says a victory will make him a rising star in the party.

National GOP donors have flooded Walker's campaign with cash as Republicans realize they have a chance to notch a potent symbolic win that could ripple into November. The story, though, includes a quote from an AFL-CIO official who thinks people are losing sight of the big picture: A sitting governor who took on unions is in a close recall race. “I really don’t think that many Republican governors want to go through what he’s gone through for the last year and a half."
