(AP) – Police say a gunman suspected of killing four people at a Seattle cafe and then a woman in a subsequent carjacking shot himself as officers closed in on him on a West Seattle street. He was listed in critical condition. One other person was critically injured in the cafe shooting, which occurred about 11am local time at the Cafe Racer, a restaurant and music venue north of the University of Washington. Police haven't speculated about a motive. They released two photos from inside the cafe: One shows a man walking into the establishment. Another shows stools overturned, and the man standing and holding what appears to be a handgun.

It was just the latest in a spate of shootings that has brought the homicide total to 20 so far this year, compared to 21 all of last year:

  • Last week, a man died when a stray bullet struck him as he and his family drove down a Seattle street.
  • In late April, a woman died of injuries suffered in an apparently random drive-by shooting near downtown. (No arrests have been made in either case.)
  • On Saturday, a bystander was wounded near the iconic Space Needle when he was struck by a bullet allegedly fired by a gang member involved in a dispute with another man, authorities said.

Sterling, don't stop posting, please! You are one of the few sane people on the board. First of all, I am alive almost 55 years, and I know for a fact what most of you dont, not because anyone here is stupid, but because you werent around!  What, Sterling, myself and I think Lindzilla here know is that YES!!!!!!!!......it will be much harder for thugs and gangs to get guns if we had stricter laws. Let me prove it. 40 years ago even middle class old me wouldnt be too afraid to go into a "bad" neighborhood. Why?  Very very few people had guns. And no thugs 40 years ago and bangers today would NOT..........definitely NOT be shrewd enough to get guns today if they weren't legal in 38 states or more! Half the thugs today are illiterate and another 40% have a 6th grade education, so how would they be smart enough to blend into our society like the Mafia or sophisticated hoods to get guns? They couldnt! Period!  40, even 30 years ago when I went to school in Brooklyn,NY, home of Mike Tyson(This place aint for puss%#s!) you never heard of a kid or especially a teacher getting shot. Never. There were NO guns in bad areas. Only the cops had them and blacks today are much more afraid to  walk to the corner for milk than 40 years ago when nobody had weapons, black or white! Now that every race, color and nationality can buy a gun with equal ease, why are even armed gang bangers much more wary , and almost all do NOT believe they will ever live to reach 30?   Oh and btw...when did you ever hear of a gangbanger using a gun in self defense because of  police brutality? Once a decade? That answer should end this conversation and put us all on the same side. Sadly it  does not. Very sadly. So far I am the only person on the board speaking from reqal experience from Brooklyn, the best place/example for gun crime in the world! Question for all you ultra-pro second amendment people: Would all of you give up your guns if that meant only the police would have them? Just like England!  Sterling watch this next one.............would any of you give up your arms if it meant  no one except the US Army could get them? No? How about  this: You give up your gun, and no one in America is allowed to carry one,OK?--- I say all of you pro gunners answer no to all 3 because you really want an excuse to keep your guns! Thats cool, guys. Really, it is.....but admit that's what you really care about. Be truthful. I'm a gun owner myself. And like Katzilla says, why is it whenever gang violence breaks out, its always guns and bullets, not potatoes and rocks that are being used???????? Great point, young lady! I believe child violence will keep starting younger and younger as to shoot someone across the street is not "up close and personal." To stick a knife in someones body 20 times is  a whole nother game. A game most people(especially kids) would not play! Lets keep this thread going. And civil, please.  -)

These bastards that kill and then try to take the easy way out are the biggest cowards in the world.  I hope they keep this guy alive so he can spend the rest of his life rotting in a prison cell. Only bad thing about that is the tax payers foot the bill.
