Tampa Paper to Gov. Scott: You're Like George Wallace

Editorial: Stop the Florida voter purge

(Newser) – The Tampa Bay Times today calls on Florida Gov. Rick Scott to stop the state's controversial purge of voters, but the editorial is most notable for what accompanies it: a 1963 photo of Gov. George Wallace trying to stop blacks from enrolling at the University of Alabama. It asks Scott to take note of the photo and draws a parallel: "It was wrong then to deny those students their right to a public education, and it is wrong now to use an inaccurate database that could deprive US citizens of their right to vote."

Like Wallace, Scott is using the defense of "states' rights" to defy the federal government, which already has called on the state to stop the purge. It is taking too many legitimate voters off the rolls and hitting minorities disproportionately, says the newspaper. The approach is "fatally flawed," and Scott's refusal to stop it "puts at risk the image of this state, the rights of its citizens, and your own reputation." Read the editorial in full here.

George Wallace was misguided and, in his own dumb way, thought he was doing the right thing.  Scott is corrupt, selfish, and if our laws were correct should be in jail for fraud right now.  Later in life Wallace understood that what he did was misguided.  You won't see that from Scott.  Florida should be hanging their head in shame (as should Wisconsin, incidentally).

Bit of a stretch, there ... but if you mean "like" as in: an insufferably egotistical narcissist who believes that what HE believes is the truth, despite what's happening in the real world ... you're zeroing in on him.

What the hell does verifying if someone is a resident of the United States to VOTE in an election have anything to do with telling black people they can't vote? Stopping illegal immigrants from voting CANNOT be equated to stopping black children from going to school. This is such bullshit propaganda it's sickening. Do states no longer have a right to uphold the constitution? When the fuck have you not had to present some form of identification when voting? If you didn't, how could you possibly regulate who votes, or how many times they vote without some kind of record? This is ridiculous, race baiting propaganda and it's not going to work. This has nothing to do with race, it's the left that has decided to make it about race because they're scared of losing Florida without the illegal vote.
