Oklahoma City Is America's Manliest

New survey takes home improvement stores, steak houses into account

(Newser) – Oklahoma City has been named America's Manliest City by those well-known experts on manliness, the people at Mars Chocolate, who also make the ever-so-manly snack food COMBOS. The company has run the COMBOS-sponsored survey for four years now, taking into consideration such data as "manly occupations" and the number of home improvement stores and steak houses. (Of course, it also considers how many "girly" things like nail salons a city has, which can drop a city in the rankings.)

The Palm Beach Post notes that this could be bad news for the Miami Heat as it goes up against the OKC Thunder in the NBA finals—Miami ranked well below OKC on the list, at No. 36. (The least manly of the 50 cities ranked? San Diego.) The top 5, per MarketWatch:

  1. Oklahoma City, Okla.
  2. Columbia, SC
  3. Memphis, Tenn.
  4. Nashville, Tenn.
  5. Birmingham, Ala.
