Well Sure, Strangers, You Can Borrow My BMW

Hooters patron hasn't seen it since

(Newser) – An apparently absurdly kindhearted Virginia man got taken for a ride recently, when he lent out his BMW to people purporting to be travelers with a hard-luck story. The man was at a Hooters in Fairfax City, when a couple came in saying their car had broken down on the way to a wedding. The man told them they could borrow his car—a 2000 BMW 740iL, police tell the Washington Post.

The man told the couple to return the car to the Hooters the next day and give the keys to an employee there—apparently, he was something of a regular. The couple agreed, and departed. They even returned a while later when they couldn't figure out how to open the gas tank. Once he told them, they happily departed for their "wedding," never to be seen or heard from again. The sad irony? The car's real owner had left an engagement ring inside.
