DC Silent as Payroll Tax Cut Chugs Toward Expiration

No one going to bat for stimulus measure

(Newser) – Less than a year ago, the White House was vigorously campaigning to extend the payroll tax cut, leading to a pitched showdown in Congress. Now, no one seems to care about it, the Wall Street Journal observes. The Obama administration is perfectly content to let the cut, enjoyed by 122 million Americans, expire in December, as are lawmakers. "That was always intended to be a temporary measure," says one top White House economic adviser.

Republicans had to be cajoled into extending the cut the first time, and this time they're flat-out against it. "I don't think we can keep cutting into Social Security," says one GOP rep. Democrats say they'll only let it expire as part of a deal on the Bush tax cuts—but they're not exactly fighting to extend it. Economists are divided on the impact of the cut. "Workers have more income, and that helps," says one, "but overall, it has not stimulated job creation."

Actually 'The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act' does overhaul Medicare and reduces it's cost. That review board the Republicans keep trying to make everyone fear regarding grannies care are actually to track fraud schemes that are so prevelent in Medicare billing which will reduce Medicare cost significantly. Considering how much the current governor of Florida got nailed for is it any wonder the Republicans don't like it? However, it's not the only thing the reform act does which helps reduce the cost of Medicare while making the health care provided to seniors better. Who knew. Just wait until people who have insurance over the next couple of months start finding out exactly how much the reform act benefits them. Obama's numbers will start going up and Romney's and Republican's, well, people are going to kind of start wondering if they are lying about that reform.

Cut the legislative budget by Rand Paul's proposed $1.2 trillion. Cut all legislator's pay by at least 20%. All congress and senate representatives must no longer get their insurance through federal subsidized plan - outside private pay plan as they want all Americans to do. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Cut all corporate welfare - gone. Cut foreign food aid by 25% but eliminate the strings to that aid which would allow more food aid to be delivered with less money because instead of food being bought here then having to pay for expensive shipping, food would be purchased for much less on sight and distributed which cost less than half than what it cost to do it as it is done now. More bang for our bucks. Give tax break to corporations that bring jobs back to U.S. but take tax breaks from those that take them out of the U.S. as Obama has asked. Accept Obama's proposed tax extention plan which is tax extentions go to those who earn under $250k but everyone elses' is gone. No more arguing for now and everyone can get the military budget approved now, O.K. before it gets hit with cuts. And oh by the way congress, serving in the military, boots on the ground isn't a regular job, so no, they shouldn't pay for their insurance like it's a regular job. Are you Republicans totally insane?
