Aging stars turned down offer to perform

(Newser) – The star-studded Olympic closing bash seemed to include all of Britain's pop royalty, but in fact major figures snubbed the event—including David Bowie, Kate Bush, and the Rolling Stones, the Guardian reports. Bowie, 65, was considered a long-shot because he hasn't toured since 2006. Rumor had it Bush would take the stage last night, but alas, she only posted a statement on her website commending a "brilliant show."

Backstage at the ceremony, people were surprised that George Michael was allowed to play his new release, "White Light," as well as the classic "Freedom." His record company, Island Records, quickly removed a tweet asking people to buy the new tune, which didn't make iTunes' top 10 today. But a mix of the evening's music called A Symphony for British Music did climb to number two on the list.

The only time I got mildly interested in anything to do with the 'pics was because I heard Kate Bush would be involved in the ending. Oh, well, I just know something good is going to happen.
