(Newser) – The cutthroat machinations of the royal throne can be infamously treacherous, but who knew the royal doghouse could be so dangerous? Last week in Balmoral, the Queen's Scottish vacation home, the Queen's six corgis got into a fight with the Duke of York's three Norfolk terriers, reports the Telegraph. An 11-year-old named Max, the prized pet of the Duke's daughter Beatrice, reportedly got the worst of the brawl, getting badly injured and nearly losing an ear.

"He was very lucky to survive," said one royal insider. "There was blood everywhere." The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, were reported to be "very upset" over the incident. Princess Beatrice was not in the castle when the attack occurred, but has since come to take care of her dog.
