(Newser) – The "legitimate rape" controversy has turned conservative Todd Akin from frontrunner to a 10-percentage-point trailer—48% to 38%—in the Missouri Senate race, reports ABC News. But despite the pounding in the polls and losing the support of the Republican Party, Akin is not about to drop out. In fact, his campaign has a message for Democratic opponent Claire McCaskill: You drop out.

"The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48% after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is,” said Akin's spokesman. "If she can’t break 50% after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down."

This is the most childish behavior I have seen from a person with so much power.

Play #2 in the GOP handbook: "Turn the tables." Accuse your opponent of what you are and tell them they need to do what you should be doing.  Right after comes play #3: "Play the victim" Incite the opposition and then play the victim as they "attack" you. Watch for it.
