(Newser) – A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck last night off the coast of El Salvador triggered a tsunami alert that was soon rescinded, reports AP. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the quake or from a small tsunami that hit the El Salvador port of Acajutla shortly afterward, reports Reuters. The quake followed a "storm" of some 300 mostly mild temblors in southern California yesterday.

Officials are monitoring coasts following a 7.4 earthquake and aftershock off El Salvador.
