R.E.M. to Fox: Stop Playing Our Music

Michael Stipe doesn't appear to be a fan of the network

(Newser) – Today's entry in the don't-mix-my-music-with-your-politics meme: R.E.M. sent a cease-and-desist letter to Fox News after the network used "Losing My Religion" in its coverage of the Democratic convention, notes the Hollywood Reporter. At least Michael Stipe was more colorful than most: "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage," he wrote on the band's website. "Our music does not belong there." No word from Fox yet.

Like it or not "artists" - when you sign that contract for distribution you GIVE THE RIGHT to your record company to distribute your product - one way they do this is by license to organizations that pay a blanket fee to play ANYTHING the record company distributes - you can't pick and choose who you want to use your music if they are properly licensed - so shut up and sing - no one cares about your left wing political views anyway!!!

if they were so worried about someone using 'their music',  maybe r.e.m. shouldn't have gone for the big bucks contract with cbs . fox paid for the rights to use a snippet of the 'losing my religion' song which they, cleverly, used to accompany a story on the demcon's booing of 'god' being mentioned in their platform. get over it, stipe. your phony, lefty 'purity' has everybody 'losing their lunch'.
