(AP) – A US official says an insurgent attack on a British air base in southern Afghanistan today killed two American Marines and wounded several troops. The official says the attack at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan's Helmand province involved a range of insurgent weaponry, possibly including mortars, rockets or rocket-propelled grenades, as well as small arms fire. A number of aircraft at the base also were hit by insurgent fire, the official said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because US military authorities in Afghanistan had not yet announced the battle. Camp Bastion is a British air base and is adjacent to Camp Leatherneck, the main base for US Marines in Helmand. Bastion is also part of the coalition base where Prince Harry is deployed, NBC News reports. The Taliban announced "Harry Operations" this week targeting the third-in-line to the British crown, who is serving a four-month stint in Afghanistan.

2 more NATO soldiers have now been shot and killed in an 'insider' attack by a man believed to be a member of the Afghan Local Police. Another service member returned fire, killing the gunman. So far this year, 47 international service members have died at the hands of Afghan soldiers or policemen or insurgents wearing their uniforms. There were at least 12 such attacks in August alone, resulting in 15 deaths.

I wish the press would ask tougher questions on the lack of success of recruiting and converting over to our side regular Afghani. I mean among those that, it is believed, will one day make up the police and armed forces in that country. I suspect people would be shocked to learn that most of the Afghans that are within arms reach of US soldiers on the ground and are being trained by our military are scumbags. The rest of them, the ones that look promising and disciplined (thus get the best training and the best weapons from us) are actually zealot infiltrators and feeding information to the Taliban and al Queda. This attack on this base and the possibility of killing a British royal would be a huge terrorist victory. And they sure seem to have excellent intelligence for a bunch of yak herders.  8 years from now we are going to find out that Obama's decision to stay and build up in Afghanistan was influenced a great deal by right wing group within the Military That they were feeding the President bad US military intelligence and that Gen. Stanley McChrystal was part of an extreme right wing faction of the US military that hates this President and would like to see him fail in Afghanistan.
