Driver Stops Bus—to Give Away His Shoes

Winnipeg transit driver pulls over to help barefoot man

(Newser) – It was no big deal, insists Winnipeg bus driver Kris Doubledee, but his act of kindness is resonating in the city and beyond. When Doubledee saw a man walking barefoot downtown, he stopped his bus, got out—and gave the man his shoes. Then he got back on the bus without comment and drove on as usual. A passenger blogged about it at CommunityNewsCommons—"there wasn't a dry eye on the bus"—and soon national outlets picked up the story and identified Doubledee as the driver.

"It was automatic," he explained to CBC. "You know, [it was] something I could do. It looked like he needed the shoes more than I did. Anybody would do the same thing."

He couldn't bear the site of a person without shoes. Pretty amazing.

He is probably correct that it was what anyone would do--in Canada.  Once I drove across Ontario.  I stopped and pickup up a map at Sault Ste Marie but I never got a chance to look at it because every time I pulled over to check out where I was, someone would pull up and get out of the car to come over and ask me if they could help.

True story here: About a year ago I was going through Nashville Tn. It was pouring rain & had been raining all day. As I got off the Interstate I came to a traffic light at the end of the off ramp & saw some commotion going on. I pulled up behind a car that was stopped & a man was opening his trunk! I looked to my right & saw an elderly man (he looked homeless) walking, totally drenched. I looked to my left & saw/heard a woman screaming in her car: "He is getting a gun from his trunk! he is getting a gun from his trunk!". Sure enough, the man getting in his trunk pulled something out & pointed it at the elderly man. It was an umbrella.......................he gave it to the elderly man, got back in his car, & we all went on our way.
