(Newser) – Harry Reid is a Mormon, and he wants you to know that Mitt Romney is not the poster boy for his religion, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. Speaking on a conference call Friday about Romney's upcoming visit to Nevada, where many Mormons live, Reid said that he agrees with fellow Mormon Gregory A. Prince—who blogged last week that Romney has "sullied" their shared religion, according to Politico. Members of the LDS church "understand that [Romney] is not the face of Mormonism," Reid added.

The GOP pounced on Reid's comments, with Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz saying, “Harry Reid seems to be making this way too personal and consequently throwing the religion under the bus for his own personal gain. That’s not where anyone should be going with this. He’s taking this two steps too far.”
