Anyone who’s been deployed to Southwest Asia where alcohol is prohibited knows that you can get it fairly easy. Usually we’d get our stuff through air crews who would stash it in their aircraft and sneak it through customs . It was nice that one of my roommates was a C-130 pilot. Whenever I came back from Temporary Duty (TDY) I’d bring back a couple of bottles in my duffle bag; the folks at customs never gave me any hassles. Heck, I saw general’s aides bringing back cases of beer, steaks and lobster on military flights. The enlisted folks and contractors were also doing their own thing. So long as no one got extremely drunk and didn’t cause an incident, nothing was said. As for porn, with all the personal laptop computers and the internet, everyone had access to porn! Now, as for the general forcing a subordinate to blow him, that’s another story and there’s no excuse for this. However, there was a lot of screwing around going on especially in the rear echelon areas and so long as it was permissive, no one ever said anything about it and whatever happened in Southwest Asia, stayed in Southwest Asia. I don’t know anything about this general, but there might be a vendetta against him; you never know. I sure would like to hear the rest of the story; either way his career is ruined (bad press) and there will be no second star for this guy.
