You can't really be surprised that Ricky Gervais is on the list

(Newser) – Celebrities, never ones to let a natural disaster pass without giving their ill-timed two cents, have been very vocal since Hurricane Sandy hit. Some responded classily; others not so much. The Frisky collects 10 tweets of the latter variety:

  • Ricky Gervais: “This ‘Sandy’ who’s on TV all the time and is blowing the entire east coast, I assume she’s a Kardashian right?”
  • DJ Pauly D: “Can’t Believe #Sandy Ruined @snooki’s PooOorchh !!!! Where Am I Gonna Kick It At Now ??”

  • Cindy McCain’s tweet wasn’t so much inappropriate as ill-timed: “San Diego is gorgeous this time of year! I’m in heaven!”
  • Jim Gaffigan: “Maybe if we start referring to #Sandy as Sandra, she will settle down. #SensitiveStorm #Sexism”
  • Joan Collins: “True disaster is that Bloomingdales is closed today. Where’s a girl to shop during a hurricane?”
Click for the complete list, which includes an Obama dig and, of course, another Snooki diss.

Ricky Gervais is an idiot. Joan Collins I thought was dead. The rest I've never heard of and couldn't care less about. - Burma Shave

I am on the fence on this one. While my family and I tend to cope using humor or black humor as some would say, I also feel for those who life is filled with tragedy from Sandy. Some of those tweets were pretty funny and some not so. Keeping in mind what is funny to one may not be so to another since Comedy tends to depend on ones past and life experience.  Because it was not funny, it becomes inappropriate? Can it be both?  Humor is one way people work through the pain. Comedy's roots are from tragedy, with out one there is not the other. The jokes do not lessen the tragedy, but they do lessen the pain.
