(Newser) – The Philadelphia police lieutenant who got fired for punching a woman at a festival was charged today with simple assault, a misdemeanor. District attorney Seth Williams says he made the decision to charge Jonathan Josey after carefully reviewing video of the altercation. Williams says police were responding to a chaotic situation, but the use of force was unnecessary.

Defense attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. says Josey was working in a "very volatile environment" that day. He says the 19-year veteran will be vindicated and hopes to return to his job. The video shows 39-year-old Aida Guzman being struck in the face and falling to the ground, her face bloodied, before being led away in handcuffs.

I wonder if she was running her mouth taunting the officer thinking she could get away w/ it. Most law enforcement officers are good people all it takes is one bad one to ruin an entire dept.'s rep. I know I've been given "the benefit of the doubt" more times than I can remember when I could have been arrested. Then again I'm not a convicted felon w/ a history of stupid behavior either. I noticed there wasn't any info on the chick. Is she some 400lb assface w/ 15 fatherless children living off the taxpayers in guvmont housing who grew up w/out a father & never graduated junior high school? Until there's a social cleansing (which will never happen) w/ an incurable fast acting terminal illness strategically infecting, NY, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Miami, Houston, New Orleans, & LA american society will continue to devolve and erode. The biggest & most basic flaw of the criminal justice system is - Not every life is has the same value. Prison is for those which are either so psychologically deranged they must be locked up for life unfortuneatly is largely filled w/ those who can be rehabilitated & are wasting billions of the taxpayer's dollars. A few are innocent.
