Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs is the shooter

(Newser) – Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend this morning and then killed himself, reports the Kansas City Star. Police say the 25-year-old linebacker shot the woman about 8am during an argument at their home—in front of her visiting mother. He then went to Arrowhead Stadium, where he was met by team personnel who tried to stop him from shooting himself. He did so just as police arrived. 25 yrs old, a millionaire and an unmarried father with a 3-mo old baby and a visiting mother-in-law (so to speak).  Sounds like grounds for paternal postpartem depression.  Too bad he apparently didn't love his baby enough to spare the child's mom.. and just hurt himself.  Too bad he didn't talk to someone... but at 25 and well-off, he probably thought the world was his.  Sad.  And why did he have a gun?

If we had stricter gun laws, this might not have happened.I still don't get why assault weapons aren't banned from the non-military public.In the wake of the colorado movie massacre,congress has to re-think this issue.
