John McAfee: I've Been Captured

But Belize authorities don't agree

(Newser) – Another weird twist in the John McAfee story: A website he set up claims he's been captured, but Belize authorities say it's not true, the Guardian reports. "We have received an unconfirmed report that John McAfee has been captured at the border of Belize and Mexico," reads the post. "More information as it is received." A police officer in Belize and a source at the US embassy, however, both say the fugitive software inventor is yet to be found. He remains a person of interest in the death of his Belize neighbor, Gregory Viant Faull.

Just two days ago, McAfee granted an interview to CNN reporter Martin Savidge and said he has no intention of turning himself in. McAfee said he won't flee the country, either, but will be exonerated "when they find the murderer of Mr. Faull" or when "the people of this country, who are by and large terrified to speak out will start speaking out, and something will change." McAfee has already disguised himself with a tampon, accused Belize's prime minister of being a dictator, and claimed that "they will kill me if they find me."
