(Newser) Parks and Recreation's latest political cameo was a complete accident: The cast and crew were filming at an Indianapolis steak house when they ran into Newt Gingrich, the Huffington Post reports, citing the Indianapolis Star. "You can't pass up on an opportunity like that," says the series' co-creator, so they quickly wrote the former presidential candidate into the script for the episode, which airs next month. This season has also seen cameos from John McCain, Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe, and of course Joe Biden. "Latest surprise drop by on set: Speaker Newt Gingrich! So we made up a scene and put him in!!" tweeted star Rob Lowe yesterday.

I thought that was going to be his new position as in working in a Park and Rec office. He could be kind of a city boy Ron Swanson.

Not so much a sense of humor, more that any publicity is good publicity.
